AIIMS Expresses Full Support For PGI Doctors In Recent Announcement

The Resident Doctors Association (RDA) provided support to senior resident doctors at AIIMS after a doctor attempted suicide at PGI. 

The senior resident PGI doctors received support from the Resident Doctors Association (RDA) at AIIMS, New Delhi, after one of the doctors attempted suicide. The RDA released a statement expressing its unity. 

Statement of RDA in Support for PGI Doctors

In a statement, RDA said, ‘We are disappointed about the incident in the hepatology department at PGIMER Chandigarh on July 18. A senior resident attempted suicide, citing mental torture and humiliation by a hepatology consultant during ward rounds.’

Moreover, taking into account the situation, the RDA at AIIMS ordered a thorough investigation. They also banned the faculty members accused of wrongdoing that involved face-to-face interactions with residents or students.

Thus, after an investigation, Dr. Damandeep Singh, RDA vice president, emphasized the need for strict measures to prevent such incidents in the future. 

Furthermore, he asks that “the administration and PGI doctors in Chandigarh ensure an environment that includes compassion, interpersonal respect, and professional growth.” And avoiding harassment, humiliation, and personal attacks against any healthcare personnel.

At a press conference, the PGI administration decided to share the information uncovered during the investigation. In the afternoon, a senior resident physician made an attempt at suicide on the PGI campus.

In his suicide note, he accused the faculty members in his department of being responsible for the same. Besides, his colleagues saved him, and the official took him back to his hometown of Ambala. 

Prof. Vivek Lal, the director of PGI, formed a committee after this incident, and Dr. Naresh Panda, the dean of academics, led it. Dr. Panda turned in the committee’s report. It has been determined to ban the misbehaving faculty member from all academic pursuits and to forbid any research or thesis conducted by him.
