Major Fire Engulfs Chemical Factory in Mohali, Punjab: 8 Injured, Inquiry Initiated

A Massive Fire at Mohali Chemical Factory, on Wednesday, resulting in the injury of eight workers. Local authorities and fire services immediately responded to the emergency, with the incident occurring in the morning hours. At the time of filing, firefighters were still battling the massive blaze, according to reports. Besides that, Aashika Jain, Deputy Commissioner of Mohali, has ordered a judicial investigation into the incident. In fact, the cause of the fire was still unknown.

Blaze in Mohali’s Industrial Area

The fire broke out at a chemical factory in the area of Kurali, Mohali, sending thick plumes of black smoke into the sky, raising concerns over the safety of those in the vicinity. Well, the cause and scope of the injuries were unknown when emergency services arrived on the scene. In fact, Kurali is one of the region’s largest markets for firecrackers, with crackers stored in several godowns alarming local authorities.

Swift Response with Multiple Fire Tenders

To put out the fire, various nearby fire stations in the Mohali and Ropar districts sent about 24 fire trucks to the chemical factory. Moreover, they had to act quickly in order to put out the fire and stop further damage.

Burn Injuries Reported

Tragically, several individuals present at the chemical factory when the fire erupted sustained burn injuries. Preliminary reports indicate that the plant has referred five female workers who suffered burns to the civil hospital in Mohali for treatment. In fact, the severity of their injuries remains undisclosed. Not to mention that at least one of the injured women said to be in critical condition.

Ongoing Efforts to Control the Fire

Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that the fire started around 11 am, and efforts to control it were still in progress at the time of reporting. Furthermore, firefighters and emergency personnel worked tirelessly to control the situation. The UT fire department sent a fire tender with a 6,000-liter water capacity to Kurali on Wednesday, after the chemical factory fire in Mohali. According to eyewitnesses, around 12 workers were present in the factory at the time of the incident. Out of these, eight sustained injuries and were later rushed to Kurali Civil Hospital initially before shifted to other hospitals.

Safety Measures Implemented

Authorities took immediate action to ensure public safety. As a precaution, authorities cordoned off the area immediately surrounding the chemical plant. In addition, they urged residents in the vicinity to stay indoors, shut their windows, and close doors to prevent exposure to the potentially toxic smoke.

Statements from Officials

We would like to appeal to everyone not to approach this area until the fire is fully under control, said Sandeep Garg, SSP SAS Nagar Mohali. According to Garg’s preliminary information, the incident injured eight people. Among them, five sustained minor burns and were receiving treatment, while two had major burns and referred to Sector 32 Hospital. Finally, he expressed his wish for their quick recovery.

Local authorities have not disclosed the cause of the Massive Fire at Mohali Chemical Factory or the specific chemicals involved. Finally, they stated that they would investigate the causes of this massive fire and determine the incident’s origin and circumstances.
