New Feasibility Panel to Reassess Chandigarh Metro: A Step Forward To Handle Traffic Congestion

The much-awaited Chandigarh Metro project is still under process and likely to face further delays as a new feasibility committee is all set to reassess the plan. Authorities aim to ensure that the project meets current needs and standards, leading to an extension of the timeline.

So many concerns came into the limelight when the Metro project was planned in the beautiful city of Chandigarh. Some politicians opposed the commencement of the project. A new committee has been established to provide clarity on the status of the project and reshape the initial proposal on the whole, keeping the logistical and financial aspects in mind.

It is noticeable that Kirron Kher shared her opinion related to the project that it can damage the infrastructure of a well-planned city like Chandigarh and managing everything can be cumbersome. In her statement, she said that the Metro project in Chandigarh is not financially viable and can result in the digging of the entire city and its outskirts.

Manish Tewari expressed his concerns associated with the untimely delay in the project. He believes that the project will bring favourable outcomes for the people of Chandigarh and neighbouring areas.

The committee will hold numerous meetings and analyse reports from the Comptroller and Auditor General of India on other Metro projects. The members of the committee will coordinate with RITES Limited to determine whether this project will be financially feasible and check other mediums of transport to manage the traffic in city.

The committee will include a UT chief engineer who will play the role of a nodal officer and other members like the administrative secretary of town and country planning, the UT transport secretary, the UT chief architect, and the UT urban planning secretary.

The committee will interact with stakeholders from NHAI, the IAF station, and Chandigarh airport to handle problems related to inter-governmental coordination, the access to airport, and the progress of a ring road around Chandigarh.

The officials demand a thorough evaluation of the project for the long-term success of the Chandigarh Metro. While so many commuters may be unhappy or agitated who look forward to improving public transport, lots of believe that it can be an excellent step to avoid future hassles and complications.
