Panjab University Student Council Elections in Chandigarh 2023

The final results of the PU Student Council Elections announced on Wednesday. The election witnessed 66% polling. Out of 15,693, 10,323 polled. Besides that, the elections was for the posts of President, Vice President, Secretary, and Joint Secretary.

Voting for the Panjab University Student Council Elections in Chandigarh began at 9:30 a.m. and ended at 12:00 p.m. After all, voting took place in 179 polling places that were set up in 69 departments. The votes took place in the gymnasium hall.

Not to mention, there are a total of 21 candidates contesting the elections. The candidates come from several student associations, including the Student Organization of India (SOI), the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the Chhatra Yuva Sangharsh Samiti (CYSS), and the National Students Union of India (NSUI).

PU Student Polls to Address Key Issues and Concerns

PU is well-known not only for its academic excellence, but also for its vibrant student body. Moreover, it has a long history of developing student leadership and providing students with a voice in shaping their educational experience. The main issues candidates raise include hostel improvements, increased scholarships, more student job opportunities, and better university infrastructure. In fact, if elected, the candidates have promised to address these concerns.

PU Student Council Elections Results 2023

NSUI’s Jatinder Singh secured the president’s post with 3,002 votes in the 2023 Panjab University Student Council Elections. In an official statement, NSUI expressed gratitude to the student community for their trust and support. Additionally, they emphasized a mandate for constructive politics at Punjab University.

According to the NSUI, students ran against the government’s policies in this election. “This win is proof that Punjab University students and young people are against divisional politics, said the victor. In addition, they have disavowed the government’s anti-student policies and hate-filled ideologies, it added.

Jatinder of the NSUI received 3,002 votes, while Divyansh Thakur of CYSS, the Aam Aadmi Party’s student wing, received 2,399 votes. In contrast, Ranmeekjot Kaur of Sath won the vice-president’s position. Also, Deepak Goyal of the Indian National Students Organization (INSO) secured the role of secretary. Likewise, Gourav Chahal received 3,140 votes to win the election for Joint Secretary.

The NSUI will host a “Mohabbat Ki Yatra” tomorrow to honor the martyrs and commemorate the victory. “In honor of the one-year anniversary of the landmark Bharat Jodo Yatra, students and youth from PU have unveiled a “Mohabbat ki Dukaan.” In fact, they have made it abundantly clear to the regime that they stand for kinship, progress, and love.

Candidates’ Names Who Won the Elections

Twenty-one candidates vied for the position of PU Student Council President. Voting took place in 179 booths set up across various departments for the PU Student Council elections.

President– Jatinder Singh, from the National Student Union of India (NSUI), won with 3,002 votes
Vice president – Ranmeekjot came out on top with 4,084 votes.
Secretary- Deepak Goyat of the Indian National Students Organization (INSO) received 4,431 votes to become secretary.
Joint Secretary– With 3,140 votes, Gourav Chahal of Punjab University Helping Hands (PUHH) won this seat.
