Sukhna Lake: An Oasis in the Heart of Chandigarh

Sukhna Lake in Chandigarh is a water body at the foothills of the Himalayas. Besides that, this 3km rain-fed lake was initially created in 1958 by damming the Sukhna Choe, a checked stream that flows down from the Shivalik Hills. Therefore, in the first place, seasonal flow entered the lake directly, causing heavy siltation. In fact, the lake was originally founded by Le Corbusier and Chief Engineer L. Verma. Not to mention, to save its peacefulness, Corbusier focused on two main things, that it be completely prohibited for motor boats to move around the lake. And for motor vehicle traffic to come to a complete halt on top of the dam. Lastly, the golf course borders the lake to the south, and Nek Chand’s very popular Rock Garden of Chandigarh borders it to the west.
